In December 2021, the law on the Human Rights Ombudsman in the Republic of Kazakhstan was adopted, providing for a number of significant changes in his powers and functions (hereinafter referred to as the Ombudsperson). In particular, the Ombudsperson’s institution is expanding its representation at the regional level throughout Kazakhstan, which will require the strengthening and building of managerial and organizational processes.
The objectives of the Ombudsman's activities shall be to promote the restoration of violated rights and freedoms of a person and a citizen, improve the regulatory legal acts of the Republic of Kazakhstan, encourage and promote the rights and freedoms of a person and a citizen.
In order to assist the Ombudsperson in improving the management, operational and business processes of the institution, as well as in its newly opened regional offices, the OSCE Program Office in Nur-Sultan (hereinafter - the Office), at the official request of the Ombudsperson, assists in the organizational assessment of the Commissioner's institution.
